Job Description

Pennoni is currently looking for a Civil Engineering Office Director for our New York, NY office with experience consistent, but not limited to:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the profitable operation of the office and divisions under their direct supervision within the office. Operations include office administration, coordinated business development and revenue generation, client contact, office/division management, cash and overhead management.
  • Responsible for achieving short and long-term goals for operations, financial performance, and profitable growth.
  • Responsible for marketing the firm’s services, developing and evaluating contracts, and serving as the firm’s responsible contact with specific clients.
  • Acts as Practice Builder to provide leadership in planning, directing and implementing an aggressive, coordinated marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to get additional work. Manages/expands existing client relationships and pursues new client relationships.
  • Serves as principal in charge/project manager for major clients and provides leadership to staff assigned to the projects.
  • Leads and manages accounts receivable collection efforts for geographic based divisions.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Engineers, DM’s, and other Office Directors on workforce planning and implementation and adherence with QA/QC/Safety procedures within the office.
  • Coordinates with the RVP or, if applicable the RTP for the technology-based regions to enhance business development activities between regions.
  • Attracts experienced staff members, who bring client relationships, strong technical credentials, and a solid reputation. Builds and develops a strong and effective team based upon Pennoni’s Code of Courtesy and Personal Conduct. Assist in leadership development of direct reports.
  • Directs, plans, and manages the execution of office activities including budgets, sales, cash management and overhead management.

Reporting Relationships:

  • The OD reports directly to the geographic based RVP and indirectly to the technology based RVP, if the Technologies exist in the office.
  • Direct reports include Division Managers (DM) for the divisions under their direct supervision and administrative staff in the office.
  • The OD will coordinate with the RVP, Regional Technology Principal (RTP) and DM’s of the technology based regions on matters pertaining to the office.



Job Requirements

Job Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Planning, Masters preferred
  • Proven success in the ability to lead and manage multi-disciplined engineering services.
  • Business development and marketing skills to assist in growing the backlog of all disciplines for the office.
